Canoeing on Carnegie Lake
Today was a beautiful day with blue sky and white puffy clouds - a perfect day for Bill and I to go canoeing on Carnegie Lake, Princeton with our old friends Betty and Ray. Original plan was for Bill and Ray to go kayaking on the Delaware downstream and drive back up. I wanted to be part of that! However, the Delaware had too much water and maybe we wouldn't be able to get under the bridges. Hence, the Lake and Betty too in canoes. We all had a really great time.

Friday Mornings with Timmy and Bridget
For a while I am spending Friday mornings with Bridget and Timmy while their mommy teaches high school Spanish. Their cribs are gone now and they each have their own beautiful bedrooms. This morning they were busy with their big wheel tricycles, blowing bubbles, digging in their sandbox and eating a snack. Later I pulled them in their red wagon to the nearby park where we walked on a boardwalk trail along the lake. There we saw the geese swimming, milkweed going to seed and an interesting black and orange beetle. In their own backyard they have two ponds with fish and frogs. Mornings don't get any better!

Posterior Vitreous Detachment
This was the diagnosis I received today from my eye doctor. It sounds terrible but it is a common usually harmless condition that comes with ageing. My problem began one morning last week while I was reading the morning newspaper and I saw a jagged shaped colored prism V shape on the left side of where I was reading. It lasted about 15 minutes. I wasn't happy about this occurrence but decided to ignore it. Last night it suddenly appeared again just as I was getting off the computer. This time it was larger and if it was normal I could've enjoyed its beauty. However, at this point my mind is racing toward detached retinas, blindness etc.
So first thing this morning I called Dr. Silberberg for an appointment. They needed to dilate my eye with drops which I really dislike. They took pictures of my eye and then examined it with a machine. The doctor said it is important to get something like this examined because it could lead to a tear or detached retina in about 1 percent of the cases. I can expect to see more light for a few weeks but if it worsens I need to have it rechecked.
Anybody know where I can find the Fountain of Youth?

Bugs, Birds and Beyond
Today the Master Gardeners put together a day of fun and learning for kids. Dorothy and I had our bat display. Dorothy made a great poster and she had paper bats for the kids to make or color and a colection of children's books on bats. I had a fabulous bat cave made by Bill the Handyman. We used bat Beanie Babies to toss into the cave. The kids loved it. Thank you Katie Rose for letting us use your "Batty" Beanie Baby. Batty had a ball flying around with his other bat friends but he is a little tired and resting now.
Different craft projects included making bird houses out of orange juice containers, cardboard ladybugs, fancy hats and colorful butterflies. There was a greatl insect desplay and also a table about vermi composting. We even had a costumed master gardener transform from a caterpillar into a butterfly to the accompaniment of harp music! Tours were given of the children's garden, and the PAR (plant a row) garden from which vegetables are given to a local food bank and of a rain garden which was planted by master gardeners last year. Water from the parking lot now flows into this rain garden rather than into the sewer.
It was a very successful day.

IT"S A BOY !!!
We just got the word this morning that Kristen and Leo are going to have a boy. The doctor had been saying that the baby is very active and strong. I told Kristen it looked they were going to have a superbaby. She said either that or a baby with ADHD! Anyways, we are very very happy for Kristen and Leo. The baby is due the beginning of January. This will be our 7th grandchild, giving us 2 granddaughters and 5 grandsons. We are all blessed!

Handyman Bill
Bill's doing a super job. He worked many hours yesterday on our back porch. Even when the hot sun came around he kept on going. .
Paint the Front Porch Railing
Now I can't be outdone. My project is scraping layers of paint from our front porch railing. It's a tough job which Handyman Bill did ten years ago.

Labor Day Family Picnic
We're always happy to get our family together, especially on a warm sunny day with a pool and a hot tub to play in. Sorry, everybody couldn't make it but Peter's working in Haiti and Roxana and Anthony and Alex are living in Florida. The trip from Pennsylvania was too much for Leo and Kristen this time. However, Chris and Adrian with Katie Rose and Stephen, Teddy and Patti with Timmy and Bridget, and cousin Stefan were all here and it was a fun day!
